Henry Schein Inc., a provider of health care products and services to practitioners, has acquired NLS Animal Health, a veterinary distribution business serving about 8,000 companion animal clinics in the United States.

Henry Schein, which has headquarters in Melville, N.Y., serves more than 500,000 customers worldwide—including veterinary clinics, physician practices, dental practices, dental laboratories, government, and other institutions. The company provides not only health care products but also practice management software. It had sales of about $4.6 billion in 2005.

NLS Animal Health, of Owings Mills, Md., had 2005 sales of about $110 million. The company was itself a merger of three companies. A.J. Buck & Son Inc. of Baltimore, Md., merged with Barber & Lundberg Inc. of Oklahoma City in 1998 to form National Logistics Services LLC. In 1999, National Logistics Services became NLS Animal Health after acquiring Sunbelt Veterinary Supply Inc. of Montgomery, Ala.
