AVMA support of NASPHV compendia
The National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians (NASPHV) helps direct and develop uniform public health procedures involving zoonotic disease in the U.S. and its territories. State public health veterinarians regularly consult with other state and local professionals like physicians, legislators, the general public, and others, making their insight invaluable for preventing the spread of zoonotic diseases.
The AVMA supports the NASPHV's compendia intended to help prevent exposures to and control diseases that humans can get from animals and animal products:
- Compendium of animal rabies prevention and control
- Compendium of measures to control Chlamydia psittaci infection among humans (psittacosis) and pet birds (avian chlamydiosis)
- Compendium of measures to prevent disease associated with animals in public settings
- Compendium of measures to prevent zoonotic diseases associated with non-traditional pets
- Compendium of veterinary standard precautions for zoonotic disease prevention in veterinary personnel
- Preventing zoonotic diseases associated with non-traditional pets
